From Lou’s Desk – The Philidelphia Experiment…Vicks Been a Mutt

33 total yards. That’s it. 9 games into the current NFL season Michael Vick has accounted for only 33 total yards. Much was made about the potential threat and added dimension he could bring to the Eagle upon his signing, but it has not materialized and there is a simple reason for this. He is slow. Not in the conventional way mind you, but he is NFL slow. Please remember Mike Vick was never lauded for his intellectual mastery of the quarterback position but rather by his freakish athletic ability he brought to that position. Vick brought an athleticism and speed to the QB position that had never been seen before. What has happened to Vick is the same thing that eventually happens to all professional athletes. He no longer is faster or stronger then the opponent across from him or the competition within his own team. No amount of film study, learning the offense or acclimating himself back to the NFL will change that simple fact. Will somebody else sign Micheal Vick after the season, probably, but if he doesn’t land on another team I think it will have less to do with the dog fighting stigma he carries, but rather because his skills have eroded to the point that no team can justify his addition to a 53 man roster.aaa
