The New England Patriots are returning to the playoffs and although San Diego and Indianapolis are the current sexy picks to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl either or both will probably have to defeat the Patriots to get there. Yesterday in the Patriots 35-7 whuppin of the Jags Tom Brady was nearly perfect and randy Moss caught 3 touchdown passes to lead the charge. These 2 along with head coach Bill Belichick will cause a nightmare for any playoff foe.

If a 13 win team ever had reason to panic the New Orleans Saints may have found it. How does a dominant team race out to a 17 point lead at home against a struggling (2 win) team with a rookie QB and manage to lose. In one of the most shocking and inconceivable upsets of the year the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Saints 20-17 in OT. With a win the Saints could have locke up the # 1 seed in the NFC and had guaranteed themselves home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Now to get the # 1 seed the Saints have to hope for a Minnesota loss or a win against the suddenly hot and dangerous Carolina Panthers team next Sunday. No matter how the seeding plays out in the next week the Saints need to fix they’re issues fast or they will not be around long enough in the play-offs for home field to matter.

The New York Frauds are still alive for one of the remaining AFC wild card spots and they have Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell to thank for the after Christmas gift. Caldwell pulled a majority of his offensive weapons in the 3rd quarter including QB Peyton Manning and leading 15-10. The Jets would go on to score 14 unanswered points to end the Colts chance for a perfect record as well as end the Colts run of 23 regular season wins. The Colts strategy did not sit well with the hometown fans who booed the home team throughout the 4th quarter with backup QB Curtis Painter taking the brunt of the cat calls. How this will play out for Indy remains to be seen.

The New York Giants were playing for they’re playoff lives as well as trying to close out Giant Stadium in winning fashion. The Carolina Panthers would not allow it. The Panthers rolled into Giant Stadium and then rolled over the Giants in an old fashioned butt-kicking. The question is…. where have these Panthers been all year? After dismantling the Minnesota Vikings 1 week earlier the Panthers continued they’re dominating play against the Giants. New Orleans should be very worried going into next weeks game against the team from Carolina. Carolina is playing as spoilers with nothing to lose and that is a scary thought for the Saints after 2 consecutive losses.

Blow it up. Blow it all up. That is what the Seahawks fans must be hoping for in the latest of a seasons full of humiliating losses. Yesterdays play by the Seahawks wasn’t just soft but gutless as well. If QB Matt Hasselbeck is not playing with an undisclosed injury then his fall off as a top tier QB has been shockingly rapid. Hasselbeck threw 4 interceptions in his 2nd consecutive game and looked late on most of his passes that were not intercepted. The Packers on the other hand were efficient and relentless as they moved at will against the hapless team from Seattle. read more game details here…Seattle Times
